A steady up

"Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice. Phillipians 4:4"
This verse always used to bother me. I used to think that rejoice meant be happy and that we were supposed to be happy in whatever situation we were in, good or bad. I recently discovered I was wrong. It does say Rejoice, rejoice means to be glad or take delight in. It doesn't say be glad in your situation. It says REJOICE IN THE LORD!!!! It doesn't say rejoice in the situation the Lord puts you in, it says rejoice in the Lord. Rejoice in God's power and love and mercy and promise, no matter what situation you are in. always rejoice in the Lord. This means that our hope is not up and down as our situations rise and fall. If we put our trust in the Lord instead of in the calling he gives us, our hope is a steady up. When we rejoice IN THE LORD our rejoice is always. It doesn't depend on where we are or how we feel. It's a steady up
